Cloud Computing Research Institute and Cloud Company Co-host the Second session of “China Telecom Distinguished Lecture Series”
2024-06-07

On May 27, the China Telecom Cloud Computing Research Institute and Tianyi Cloud Technology Co., Ltd. jointly hosted the second  session of "China Telecom Distinguished Lecture Series." at the China Telecom Museum. The event featured a keynote speech by Professor Chengzhong ,Xu Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Macau, on the topic of "Computing System Framework and Algorithm Research for Large Models."

With the widespread application of large models across various industries, the design of computing systems and algorithms is facing unprecedented challenges. Large models require not only massive computational resources but also efficient data management and advanced algorithmic support to ensure the efficiency and accuracy of both training and inference processes. Professor Xu introduced the development trends in technologies such as cloud computing, large models, and intelligent cloud-native systems. He proposed a framework for an intelligent resource management and scheduling system, analyzed the effects and challenges of distributed parallel learning in scenarios such as cloud-to-cloud, edge-to-edge, and cloud-edge collaboration, and shared the team’s latest research results on techniques like model compression and federated learning. He also explored the pathways to achieving deep intelligence, autonomous intelligence, and ubiquitous intelligence.

After the lecture, Professor Xu engaged in in-depth discussions with several attending experts and scholars, exchanging views on theoretical and technical issues related to intelligent computing.

Jie Wu, Chief Scientist of China Telecom and President of the Cloud Computing Research Institute, hosted the forum and presented Professor Xu Chengzhong with a commemorative medal for being a distinguished guest of the Cloud Computing Master Forum.

The forum was conducted in a hybrid format, both online and offline, with more than 60 technical experts from the Group Company's Cloud Network Operations Department, Cloud Company, Telecom Research Institute, Cloud Computing Research Institute, and other organizations attending the event.
