Jie Wu is the Laura H. Carnell Professor at Temple University, Director of the Center for Networked Computing, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Member of the European Academy of Sciences, and Foreign Fellow of the China Institute of Communications. He has previously served as the Chair of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Temple University, Associate Provost for International Affairs, Program Director at the National Science Foundation, Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Distributed Processing, and Distinguished Professor at Florida Atlantic University.
Professor Wu's research areas include mobile computing and wireless networks, routing protocols, the Internet of Things and cloud computing, distributed and parallel computing, graph theory, and network trust. He proposed using connected dominating sets as virtual backbones for mobile ad hoc networks to improve routing and broadcasting efficiency. In the field of delay-tolerant networks, he introduced new models and efficient routing protocols as well as content exchange methods.
He has published over 1,000 high-quality academic papers in renowned international conferences and journals, including more than 240 papers in IEEE/ACM Transactions. His papers have been cited over 50,000 times, with several papers cited more than 1,500 times each. He has received over 10 best paper awards at top international academic conferences. He has authored books such as "Design of Distributed Systems" and "Energy-Aware Scheduling on Multiprocessor Platforms." His h-index is 110, and he is included in the Research.com list of the top 1,000 computer scientists (currently ranked 150th in the world and 97th in the United States).
Professor Wu has served on the editorial boards of top international journals such as IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking (ToN), IEEE Transactions on Computers (TC), IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems (TPDS), IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (TMC), and IEEE Transactions on Service Computing (TSC). Since 2007, he has been a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Computer Science and Technology (JCST) and a foreign advisor for Higher Education Press. He currently serves as the co-editor-in-chief of the "Journal of Intelligent and Converged Networks (English)," jointly hosted by Tsinghua University and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
He has served as the general chair/co-chair of conferences such as IEEE DCOSS'09, IEEE ICDCS'13, ICPP'16, IEEE CNS'16, WiOpt'21, ICDCN'22, IEEE IPDPS'23, ACM MobiHoc'23, and IEEE CCGrid'24, as well as the program committee chair/co-chair of IEEE MASS'04, IEEE INFOCOM'11, CCF CNCC'13, and ICCCN'20.
Professor Wu has been invited multiple times to serve as an adjunct professor or conduct academic exchanges and presentations at universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Jilin University, and Shanghai University. He is currently an adjunct professor and doctoral supervisor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
He is also one of the founding members of the Longxing Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and was awarded the "CCF Overseas Outstanding Contribution Award" by the China Computer Federation in 2011.
