On May 28, the China Telecom Cloud Computing Research Institute held the "China Telecom Distinguished Lecture Series" (Special Edition) at the China Telecom Museum, featuring a keynote speech on "Fraud and Market Manipulation in the Cryptocurrency Market" by Professor Alessandro Mei from the Sapienza University of Rome.
Professor Mei provided an in-depth analysis of the blockchain principles underlying cryptocurrency and explained in detail the common fraud and manipulation techniques found in the market. He pointed out that although blockchain technology is decentralized, transparent, and tamper-proof, it does not completely prevent fraudulent activities in the market. Professor Mei highlighted several common fraudulent tactics that mislead investors by creating false prosperity or transaction volumes, leading to financial losses for investors.
To address these challenges, Professor Mei's team proposed a series of data analysis-based detection methods. Through transaction graph analysis and anomaly detection algorithms, these methods effectively identify unusual trading behavior and suspicious patterns. The team also provided recommendations for building a more equitable cryptocurrency market. After the presentation, Professor Mei engaged in discussions with attending experts on issues such as improving the accuracy of anomaly detection algorithms and identifying unusual trading organizations.
The event was hosted by Jie Wu, Chief Scientist of China Telecom and President of the Cloud Computing Research Institute, who presented Professor Alessandro Mei with a commemorative medal for being a distinguished guest of the Cloud Computing Master Forum.
The forum was held in person, with technical experts from China Telecom Research Institute, Cloud Computing Research Institute, and other organizations attending the event.
