On August 16th, the Cloud Computing Research Institute of China Telecom and eSurfing Cloud Company jointly held the fifth session of the "China Telecom Distinguished Lecture Series" at the China Telecom Museum. Professor Zhao Wei, Chair Professor and Director of the Academic Committee of Shenzhen Technology University, was invited to deliver a keynote speech.
Under the theme of "Computer Science: From Classical Computing to Quantum Computing", Professor Zhao Wei introduced the basic concepts of classical computing and quantum computing, as well as the design logic of their circuits and programs. He conducted a comparative analysis of quantum computing and classical computing from dimensions such as physical implementation methods, generality, running time for handling complex problems, algorithmic tools, program design complexity, and resource management. He systematically expounded on the running time advantage of quantum computing in handling complex tasks. Combining with the difficulties in design complexity and resource management, he explained the challenges that still need to be overcome for the large - scale application of quantum algorithms. Professor Zhao Wei proposed that computer science with classical computing as the core mainly focuses on the physical implementation method relying on semiconductor technology and runtime complexity. Nowadays, computer science encompasses both classical computing and quantum computing. In addition to physical implementation methods and runtime complexity, program design complexity and resource management complexity also need to be considered. A comprehensive breakthrough in these three aspects of complexity issues will further promote the development of quantum computing.

Jie Wu, Chief Scientist of China Telecom and President of the Cloud Computing Research Institute, hosted the lecture event and presented a commemorative medal for special guests of the Cloud Computing Master Lecture to Professor Zhao Wei.

This lecture was carried out in an "online + on-site" manner. Relevant personnel from units such as the China Telecom Research Institute, eSurfing Cloud, and the Cloud Computing Research Institute, as well as professors from universities such as Jilin University and the University of Science and Technology Beijing, participated in the lecture.
