From November 8 to 10, 2024, the 2024 CCF China Network Conference (ChinaNet 2024) was grandly held in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu, with the theme "Convergence of Computing and Networks, Digital Intelligence Interconnection, and Development of New Productive Forces." The conference attracted more than 1,000 registered attendees. The China Telecom Cloud Computing Research Institute, in collaboration with the China Telecom Research Institute, successfully hosted a technical forum titled "Opportunities and Challenges of Next-Generation Network Technologies," which drew numerous industry experts, scholars, and corporate representatives to discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by the new wave of next-generation network technologies.

Wu Jie’s Opening Speech
The forum was co-hosted by Wu Jie, Chief Scientist of China Telecom and Director of the Cloud Computing Research Institute; Zhang Jiansong, Senior Principal Researcher; and Xie Weiliang, Deputy Director of the China Academy of Telecommunications Research. During the forum, Wu Jie delivered an opening speech, highlighting the importance of leveraging next-generation network technologies to drive industrial development and empower the digital economy in the context of global digital transformation. He emphasized that China Telecom’s efforts in network technology innovation would help advance the national network power strategy and contribute to the construction of a digital China.

Professor Wang Xingwei, Vice President of Northeastern University, explored the research challenges of new-generation cloud computing models in his talk on "Digital Economy and Cloud-Era Computing." Researcher Zhou Xu from the Chinese Academy of Sciences shared key technologies in high-throughput transmission for computing power networks in his report on "New Transmission Layer Technologies for Computing Power Networks." Professor Quan Wei from Beijing Jiaotong University delivered a report on "Multi-dimensional Identifier Fusion Driving Network System Innovation," offering an in-depth discussion on the multi-dimensional identifier system of the future internet. Zhai Ennan, Head of Network Research at Alibaba Cloud, provided a summary and outlook on "Innovation in Large-Scale Cloud Network Infrastructure," drawing from his experience in industry-academia collaboration. Xie Weiliang from China Telecom Research Institute focused on "Air-ground Integrated Low-altitude Communication and Sensing Fusion Networking Technology," exploring the future of low-altitude economic development.

During the conference, Wu Jie was also invited to participate in the "AI-Driven Network Computing Technology Innovation Forum" and delivered a keynote speech titled "Cloud-Edge Collaborative Networks for Efficient AI/ML," where he discussed the potential advantages and key challenges of cloud-edge collaborative networks in enabling efficient AI/ML algorithm execution. He particularly focused on the optimization needs for low latency, connectivity, and local data processing, illustrating the methods for optimizing AI/ML code offloading and decentralized federated learning through two specific case studies.
